The event, a highlight of the French Year in Brazil, brings an extensive program consists of 133 photographs show the French artist, book launch Henri Cartier-Bresson: Photographer, a partnership between the Issues and SESCSP Cosac Naify, beyond parallel exhibition "Bressonianas" with Brazilian photographers influenced by Cartier-Bresson, film screenings and discussions with scholars and Brazilian and French researchers.

The exhibition Henri Cartier-Bresson: Photographer, a name taken from the book of the same name, opens to guests on September 16 and the public from September 17 until December 20 following.

"Taking pictures is hold your breath when all faculties converge to the fleeting reality. It is rigorously organizing the forms visually perceived to express its meaning. It is put on the same line of sight the head, eye and heart. "

Henri Cartier-Bresson

Creator of a unique artistic style, hailed as "the eye of the 20th century," Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908-2004) made his mark as one of the most representative humanist photographers of the story was able to show how strongly the beauty of simple gestures man, to capture scenes of flagrant streets of the world. Cartier-Bresson began to shoot effectively influenced by the Surrealists in 1931 - "not by painting them, but by the perception of the subconscious," says the general coordinator of the project Chiodetto Eder. His work still inspires new generations of photographers and serves as a parameter to fotodocumentaristas as those working in the Magnum agency, created by Cartier-Bresson and Robert Capa, among others, in 1947.

The exhibition of photographs by French artist, curated by Robert Delpire editor, includes images taken in 23 countries for over 50 years, between 1926 and 1979 and is organized into two spaces of the unit. Downstairs, the project coordinator Eder Chiodetto selected 40 images that emphasize the character of street photography, characterized by flagrant street where the accident, the poetry of everyday gestures, the geometry is juxtaposed to a surreal view of life.

Through this libertarian attitude that Cartier-Bresson took from the moment you came to see the world through the viewfinder of his first Leica camera, the artist developed a unique way to capture and express their views on the visible, creating a language that today is a benchmark for many photographers.

"Taking pictures is hold your breath when all faculties converge to the fleeting reality. It is rigorously organizing the forms visually perceived to express its meaning. It is put on the same line of sight the head, eye and heart. " This phrase defines how the photographer saw life through the viewfinder.

On the 2nd floor, Chiodetto selected 93 photos, most of which are grouped into two sections: "Conflict" and "Portraits". The first images are photographic coverage of historical events as the end of World War II - during which HCB was years in prison in a concentration camp to get away - the rise of Communism in China and the death of Gandhi in India, among other events. In "Portraits" the public can enjoy records personalities, usually performed when photographed distraction, as the painter Matisse, the philosopher Roland Barthes and the writer Truman Capote, and other images taken by him on world tours.

For Eder Chiodetto "Cartier-Bresson photographed with the instinct of a hunter who doggedly pursues its prey with a particular flair for capturing striking. His relentless pursuit was the moment when the universe conspires in harmony for the artist. A tiny fraction of time in that form and content reach the limit of expression between the four lines of the rectangle of the viewfinder. "

Films

On the ground floor exhibition space will be showing the film L'Aventure Moderne: Henri Cartier-Bresson [The Modern Adventure: Henri Cartier-Bresson], in which the director Roger Kahane shows 29 minutes in an interview with the photographer interspersed with rare footage of him working anonymously in the crowd in Paris. Directed by photographer Sarah Moon, the short HCB Point d'interrogation? [HCB Question Mark?] Displays the artist interviews in an atmosphere of intimacy. In Contacts: Henri Cartier-Bresson [Contacts: Henri Cartier-Bresson] publisher Robert Delpire shows the contact sheets of film the photographer unveiling his judicious editing process. The films have audio in the original French and Portuguese subtitles.

Show bressoniana

Curated by Eder Chiodetto, this show will have 42 parallel images of seven Brazilian photographers who take in their work the influence of Cartier-Bresson. They are: Cristiano Mascaro, Carlos Moreira, Juan Esteves and Tuca Vieira de São Paulo, Flávio Damm, of Rio de Janeiro, Orlando Azevedo, Curitiba and Marcelo Buainain, Christmas.

"The passion for the prosaic and the transience of life are deep marks of the work bressoniana. His research did not seek to obtain great photographs, but the discovery of the beauty and delicacy of the small daily gestures, revealing the human face, "sets the curator of Chiodetto Eder, who departed this premise to design Bressonianas, which occupy the exhibition space on the 3rd floor.

An extension of this parallel exhibition will be on display in the gallery outside of the SESC Santana.

The book

The Book Henri Cartier-Bresson: Photographer is the synthesis of the work of this man who revolutionized photography. Published in 1979, the book includes 155 photos selected by the author in conjunction with publisher Robert Delpire to represent its extensive production. In it, Cartier-Bresson images grouped into six modules, so unexpected and surprising. If in earlier books such as Les Danses to Bali (1954), D'une à l'autre Chine (1954) and Vive La France (1970), his work was presented in specific thematic excerpts in this work it opens space for reflection the reader asked to establish relationships and personal novel about the photos.

The book Henri Cartier-Bresson: Photographer is a co-editor of the Issues and SESCSP Cosac Naify and its launch will take place at the exhibition opening, September 16, at 20h. Not coincidentally, the exhibition and the book bear the same name as the 133 photos that make up the shows are in the publication of Issues and SESCSP Cosac Naify.
