"Humanity in War"

It will be open from Oct. 21 in Matilha Cultural in Sao Paulo, the exhibition "Humanity in War", which features 50 photographs that tell a little of the history of the world wars. The organization is the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Presented in over 50 countries, the exhibition traces the history of armed conflict and its humanitarian consequences in the last century and a half, evoking, through striking images, the pain and anguish of men, women and children who endured the torments of war, up from the American Civil wars and situations of armed violence today. In addition to historical photos, part of the display images of James Nachtwey, Chris Morris, Ron Haviv and Franco Pagetti, the VII Agency, cooperative based in New York. In 2008 and 2009, each of these respected war photographers traveled to two of eight countries in conflict where the ICRC works: Afghanistan, Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Georgia, Haiti, Lebanon, Liberia and the Philippines. The audience of São Paulo may thus have a unique vision and first-hand look at what war and armed violence do to people's lives. The images depict the reality and brutality of the conflict, but also show that we can hope, and remember that human dignity is universal and lasting. Photo exhibition Humanity in War.
