Colom was one of the forerunners of the new vanguard of Spanish photography
Photo © Joan Colom. La Via, 1961. The Spanish photographer put the camera at waist height and fired illegally, without looking. Colom was born in 1921, began photographing in 1957. He belonged to a generation of so-called "new vanguard" of the Spanish photography. For three years, Colom attended the Chinatown (now Raval), which he said was "the only place in Barcelona where I see the man." As today, the Raval neighborhood was one of poverty and prostitution. Colom put the camera at waist height and fired illegally, without looking. In 1964 scandal over the book entitled "Izas, Rabizas Colipterras y", with texts by Camilo Jose Cela. The controversy settled in Franco's Spain. One of the women portrayed without permission filed a complaint against the photographer. Colom abandoned photography in the '80s.
