Birds of Freedom
Deforestation of green areas in the metropolitan area of Belo Horizonte and the planting of street trees (Ipês, Magnolia, Ficus, etc.) that provide food for birds contributed to the return of a character very dear to the urban scene: the birds. Interested in this phenomenon, the photojournalist Marcelo Prates set their lenses for traffic lights, monuments, walls, buildings and other public places in search of species to illustrate the book Birds of Freedom, In addition to the three hundred pictures of birds, the book also brings poetic texts of journalists Nilseu Martins and Roberto Mendonça who sought through the words portray the beauty of the photos and show the customs and adaptations experienced by these birds. Thus, combining photography and literature, Birds of Freedom speaks of ecology by highlighting the flora and fauna of the capital and still draws art where you least expect. It would be inconsistent if at least the Freedom Birds agredisse the environment. Therefore, the production team chose the book neutralize the carbon emissions caused by your entire publishing process, from the environmental cost of transport pulp to the work already completed. Thus, we planted 17 trees in riparian forests of the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte to offset about two tonnes of CO2 emitted by the production of the book, which is the first state to receive the seal Carbon Zero. The calculations were made by an institution specialized in environmental preservation. Read more about the book here
