Encubrimientos
The photographer John Castillo and CIA Photo Encubrimientos participate in the group exhibition, now showing at PHotoEspaña 2010. The exhibition consists of works by ten artists, selected by portfolio readings, organized by the festival in collaboration with the Cervantes Institute and the AECID, in Guatemala City and Sao Paulo.
Encubrimientos, which is curated by Alejandro Castellote and Juan Antonio Molina, sum the eyes of artists: Andrea Aragón (Guatemala), Andrés Asturias (Guatemala), Sebastián Friedman (Argentina), Alejandro Lipszyc (Argentina), Maria Teresa Ponce (Ecuador), Gerardo Repetto (Argentina), Cynthia Soto (Costa Rica), Areli Vargas (Mexico), and the photographer and the collective in Brazil.
The exhibition remains on display from June 11 to September 12, the Cervantes Institute in Madrid. On day 11, the Trustees will participate in a roundtable discussion with some members of the show to talk about the current landscape of Spanish-American photography and the vision of Latin American photographers participating in the program "Descubrimientos."
Pictures by Women: A History of Modern Photography
The photographer Claudia Andujar participates in the group exhibition Pictures by Women: A History of Modern Photography, which runs until March 2011 at MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) in New York. In order to portray the history of the photographic medium since the early modern period to the present day, the exhibition brings together over 200 images made by photographers.
In the exhibition of the collection both new acquisitions and established works of Diane Arbus, Berenice Abbott, Claude Cahun, Imogen Cunningham, Rineke Dijkstra, Florence Henri, Roni Horn, Nan Goldin, Helen Levitt, Lisette Model, Lucia Moholy, Tina Modotti, Cindy Sherman , Kiki Smith, Carrie Mae Weems, among other artists.
Mocajuba of Nazareth
On June 10, will open the exhibition in Sao Paulo Mocajuba of Nazareth, the photographer Para Alexandre Sequeira . The show inaugurates the Wildlife Gallery, run by designers Caru Magano and Patricia Cataldi, who receive the photographer for a chat with the public on the 19th, at 12:30.
Nazareth Mocajuba displays of ten photographs and eight full-size pictures, screen printed in different tissues and performed in the namesake village of 200 inhabitants located in the northeastern state of Para The series was born following a request from a resident who needed a picture its for a document.
During the years 2004 and 2005, Sequeira stayed in the village provided a portraitist, "given the various requests for photographic services for residents who, for the most part, had never been seen in a photographic image. Throughout my research, I proposed to some of these residents to exchange personal items such as tablecloths, sheets, curtains, nets, which in my view, bore the mark of the owner, and that, therefore, brought in its own constitution value of a portrait. Each object offered, the resident received a new one as part exchange. In these objects, I started to play in actual size, the photographic image of its owner. At the end, exposed objects in the village, photographed proposing to receive back into their homes each of the replaced parts, so that, over a weekend, they were seen by the villagers. "
Anna Bella Geiger - Photo Besides photography
Caixa Cultural displays Brasília, 02 June to 4 July, the show Anna Bella Geiger - Photo Besides photography. Curated by Adolfo Montejo Navas, the exhibition brings together over 70 works of Anna Bella Geiger, which integrate a program of work of the artist carried out between 1972 and 2008.
In his work, Anna Bella Geiger intertextualizado makes use of a photographic image, whose materiality and its processes function as interventions, appropriations language and semiosis in the search for another image. The artist works with photogravures metal and screen printing, photomontage, photography and photo-video objectual.
German Lorca: Look-imaginary
They are exposed, the Caixa Cultural Brasilia, until July 4, about 60 images from the German Lorca. The show German Lorca: Look-imagery is curated by Eder Chiodetto and gathers the experimental production of the photographer, conducted between 1950 and 1970, and recent works.
German Lorca, now 87 years, implemented in Brazil, along with Geraldo de Barros, Thomaz Farkas, Edward Salvatore and other participants Foto Cine Clube Bandeirante, the picture of thought and modernist aesthetics. Its production moves between different areas: art, advertising, reportage, portrait and testing.
Brasilia 50 years
The group show Brasilia 50 years, the gallery opened The Red Light House at the time of opening of the First Meeting of the NETWORK, remains on display in the city until June 26. Curated by Rosely Nakagawa, the exhibition brings together works of photographers Sergio George, Cristiano Mascaro, Salomon Cytrynowicz, Dorival Moreira and Anderson Schneider.
The show pays tribute to 50 years in the capital, seeking to behold the vision of five generations that at some point in their lives had close contact with the city. The 40 images in the exhibition are part of the Gallery's permanent collection, which now has 35 names in its portfolio.
