The muse of the Surrealists
Lee Miller photographed by Man Ray in 1930. Lee Miller was mannequin, photographer and muse of the Surrealists, and is considered one of the most beautiful women of her time. He began his career in New York working as a model for Vogue, quickly becoming the muse of many photographers, including Steichen, Man Ray, Horst P. Horst and Hoyningen-Huene. In 1929, Lee Miller moved to Paris and became an assistant and companion of Man Ray His success encouraged him to become a photographer. In 1932, Lee Miller returned to New York where he opened his own studio. She met success thanks to its refined portraits of fashion and advertising. Lee Miller married a wealthy Egyptian businessman, moved to Cairo and photographed the desert, abandoned villages and ruins of Egypt. In 1937, she met the English painter Roland Penrose, who became her second husband. Lee Miller moved to London with Roland Penrose. She worked for Vogue magazine and later became a correspondent accredited by the U.S. Army. It was the only woman named by the army to cover the war in Europe. His photographs of the liberation of concentration camps of Buchenwald and Dachau were published in American Vogue in June 1945. See more pictures of Lee Miller Here
