I wanted to write a text and beautiful about this initiative here on the blog, but as I do not understand anything about the topic, I thought it best to exercise humility and pass the spotlight to the cap Isabel Amado, who also looks after the auctions and exhibitions of Paraty in Focus.

So pass the word to Bel. Smash woman:

In textinho presentation of the auction, which is the site of the PEF, is saying that the goal is to encourage hoarding, which made me think, then, that the collecting in Brazil must be in need of a Sustagem. How is the situation in the country at that time, Bel? Who are the big collectors, which sell more photographers etc..?
Brazil follows the global trend of growth of the art market. The contemporary photographic production reached a level never seen in the arts on the one hand by a depletion of the production of traditional arts, and the other for a moment the effervescent art market. The picture gets a free ride on this trend, as a photographic work does not reach values as high as the plastic arts.

Anyone who has traveled abroad and had an exquisite cultural background, knows the value and pleasure in assembling a collection of art, moreover, have a photograph on the walls of your home also gives you status. The young audience is interested in purchasing photos of small businessmen, young financial market, early-career executives, lawyers, architects and artists from other areas.

The interest in photography, the museums, galleries and collectors has emerged in the late '90s. Collectors clubs have been established as the Museum - Museum of Modern Art in Sao Paulo (who recently celebrated 10 years) of the breastfed - Museum of Modern Art Aloisio Magalhaes, Recife, Pirelli MASP collection of photography, created in 1990 and houses the largest collection of Brazilian photography ... In 2008, the stock held the 1st Art Auction exclusively on photography. These are just examples of the consolidation of photography in visual arts market and the growth of the photographic language within the museums, galleries and biennials.

The photographers are enshrined in the international market: Miguel Rio Branco, Mario Cravo Neto, Arthur Omar, Claudio Edinger, Vik Muniz and vintage photographs of the modernists, such as José Oiticica Filho, Jose Yalenti, German Lorca, Thomaz Farkas In the domestic market ... I would cite Armando Prado, Juan Esteves, Iatã Cannabrava, Fausto Chermont, Mark Piffer, Bruno Veiga, Dimitri Lee, Chico Albuquerque ...

I imagine that despite the intention to encourage the "habit of acquiring photographs," works of art are expensive, not everyone can buy. In PEF, which will be the opening gambit of the photos to be auctioned?
The minimum bid of works that will be the auction of the Festival are between $ 800 and U.S. $ 8,300. All works seleciondas, but three, have dimensions of 50 cm.

What is the difference between the auction of the PEF and others that you know?
The primary differences are the capture of the works, which is made by me, directly with the artists. We have no interference from the galleries. The auction is bountiful and the works depart from minimum bids below the market, ie, slightly below the established artists usually sell. With the most inexperienced, I also help in choosing the assembly, what kind of frame, where he signed the photo, how to make a certificate of authenticity etc.. There is an exercise not only to encourage hoarding, but also to teach the young how to sell your work in the manner that the market recognizes. All works in the auction PEF 2010 following international standards of conservation, as regards the printing and assembly. We do not accept jobs that do not follow these rules.

What was your "test" (hate that word!) In choosing the artists?
I follow a concept of selection based on my personal choice, which obviously goes through my my professional experience, the market perception and recognition of new ways that photography is taking. And what is cooler is that all photographers have contacted with me great pleasure to participate in the auction, all it stands ready and I had immediately sent me to select multiple photos. So is this stage of selection, which is very labor intensive but very rich at the same time, there is a dialogue between me and the photographer to choose from a photograph.

What would be the profile of this year's auction? I would like to know the youngest and the oldest, the most important and "most emerging", how many photojournalists, how fine art etc.. This question is inappropriate, really?!
Auction has no profile. What we have are works by artists from a variety of subjects, but is not photojournalism or advertising, for example. The youngest is Peter Farina, who is 23 years old, the eldest would be Chico Albuquerque, who died in 2002. And I think its important to point out that our honoree is Maureen Bisilliat.

Has any artist this year who participated in the auction last year? If so, what?
Candisani Luciano, Juan Esteves, Eduardo Muylaert, Armando Prado, Marlene Bergamo, Alexandre Belém, Fausto Chermont.

From what I saw, there is only one foreign artist in the list, it is Jordi Burch, Portugal. What is your position regarding the sale of foreign artists in the auction? You want to focus on Brazil, or indifferent is a topic for you?
The principle is much more a matter of logistics primarily because the shipping artwork overseas to Brazil is very complicated. Jordi's case is unusual: he always comes to Brazil and was willing to bring with him a possible date for the production of the auction.

'Brigade, Bel!

I agree with Hans, the picture of Alexander Severus, beautiful, can be considered photojournalism ... which does not stop at any time, be a work of art ... one of the greatest artists of all time founded the school that is a reference in photojournalism in the world ... the picture is in itself an art ... photographers are artists such as carpenters and painters ...
