FOCUS ON PARATY 2011
The seventh edition of Paraty in Focus comes with título_tema # FUTURE, a deliberate twitiana formatting (which comes from the tweet) approaching a world of images that sacramentam digital as a means of production, distribution and as language. Concepts of today and tomorrow at the hands of different and influential professionals from Brazil, England, Holland, South Africa, United States, Peru, Italy, Spain, France and Argentina.
An eclectic and heterogeneous group has been discussing the new multimedia platforms, the preservation of images, the philosophy of photography and how we can understand and make the tour of these guidelines and paradoxes that determine a future already present among us and that is becoming almost past !
This year's program brings news on your format: the projection Nights gained body with activities that start every night at 22:30 in Media Space . This year we will also be two nights of Release : books, portfolios, and of course, in a festival that comes to the future, virtual magazines.
The schedule of exhibitions that breaks it into two. Throughout the day up to 22h visitors can go to one of the shows from the traditional circuit of galleries and occupations in the city, composed of two guests, Penelope UMBRICO and Michael WHITE RIVER , two social projects, Boys ITAE and Extract 2.8 , an exposure the work of the puppet theater of Paraty and selected six of our convocation program that aims to stimulate production of young Latin American photography.
The second set of exposures is what we call the Circuit Night composed of projections on the streets of cities, from 19h to 23h, with videos and photographs of works chosen by the organization discussed so far, the future, photography and image.
Among the lectures, interviews and projections you can find a variety of looks ranging from one extreme to another of our country: South Wind brings the table by gauchos Luiz lucky and Leopoldo Plentz Curitiba with John Urban , the Mesa Contemporary Diary brings the Para Mariano Klautau , Roberta Carvalho and Ricardo Macedo . Both groups (north and south) are within the proposed Festival show held each edition production outside the Rio-Sao Paulo.
In previous years we invite a contingent of photography Pernambuco (2009) Mining and Photography (2010). Escaping the country continue at the extremes, bringing the extreme south, direct from Cape Town, South African photographer Pieter Hugo , who shows us an Africa little known and that the intriguing images, confronts us with a question: "Is there a future possible? ".
With a wry and incisive look at the same time not lose the simplicity and poetry, the campaign incorporated the festival / proposal What's next? developed by important contemporary Dutch photography magazine FOAM. Will be present Marcel Feil (curator of the magazine) and Constant DULLAART visual artist with his irreverent multimedia work.
Meanwhile, put the idea for deciphering the future thinkers like the curator Chiodetto Eder and researcher Mauricio Lissovsky , Phew! Does not end there, where our partner Magnum Photos will the young Englishwoman Olivia ARTHUR and current with its beautiful essay on women in the Arab world and completing the international vision of the future, Evan Baden throws the wave of self-portraits on the Internet, with its trials Techicnicalle Intimate and Illuminati. Baden addresses part of this future illuminated by the screens of cell phones and smartphones. But ... there is no future image that can be discussed without talking about appropriation, recycling and reframing ... It's time for North American Penelope UMBRICO that made her cauldron Flickr photos!
Stuffing more, this true-babel imagery after the festival reflects the diversity of photography - we have two photojournalists Gustavo PELIZZON and COIMBRA Custodio , who will show us how the day-to-day in the era of "Shoots and Shoots" of the journalism world while artists Claudia JAGUARIBE and Caius Reisewitz , both on the walls of galleries in and outside Brazil, tell us about their work in this transitory moment of the landscape and photography.
For further focusing the discussions on Future and Art bring you the curator and critic Paulo Herkenhoff interviewing multimedia artist Miguel Rio Branco , one of our producers always connected to the future, after all, good photography is good photography.
Giving voice to a concern that attends our environment, bring to Paraty an unusual debate that we had no doubts in programming: Memory of the Future brings the American David RIECKS , specialist vocabulary; Sergio Burgi IMS, Patricia DE FILIPPI the Cinematheque Brazilian; CLICIO Barroso and mediating the Fototech Carlos Carvalho of RPCFB. With this table we want to make clear that we are concerned with our memory!
Besides all, more than 500 vacancies out of 28 workshops attest to the force that has the range of photography in today's society and the importance of festivals like Paraty in Focus, Photo Rio Fest Photo Poa, Devercidade, dentists, and many others (they are 16 festivals in all).
