The South African Pieter Hugo enjoys an eclectic imagery associated with himself the next generations. It also shifts the geographical point, centered in Europe and the United States, to produce in their own land and surrounding area in its suburbs, steeped in the idiosyncrasies of his art more atavistic. So with the series "Nollywood", 2008, captured in Nigeria: Powerful pictures from a low-cost industry that produces over 1000 films a year. The distance from the glamor is expressed with rare cinematic aesthetics. The same density is reflected in another series "The Dog Master" whose representation of a creator of hyenas, like a simple dog, subverts the domestic rules of the common, the banal, in imposing an approximation truly surreal.

With a solid and consistent work, Pieter Hugo is one of the great names in contemporary photography. Born in a continent marked by contrasts, Pieter comes to Paraty in Focus for a workshop aimed at photographers with personal work and concrete nearing completion, wishing to share their projects for guidance. Pieter will discuss the work of each student sharing your comments with others, making the workshop a group of follow-up studies of projects that perpassará aspects of a photo essay as a language, aesthetic, and narrative approach.

Pieter Hugo [1976] grew up in Cape Town, South Africa, where he follows to this day living. He had his work exhibited at Yossi Milo Gallery in New York (2010), Le Chateau d'Eau in Toulouse, France (2010), the Australian Centre for Photography in Sydney, Australia (2009), and Foam_Fotografiemuseum, Amsterdam (2008). In 2008 Hugo was the winner of the KLM Paul Huf Award and also the new artist in Arles Discovery Award at the Rencontres d'Arles Photography Festival in France in 2007 was chosen the young artist of the year in the Standard Bank Young Artist for Visual Art in 2006 and won first prize in the World Press Photo portraits.
